On today's show, we hear from Susan Barrett, an associate professor in the TU Department of Theatre and Musical Theatre. Barrett is directing a new production of the Tony Award-winning musical, "The Drowsy Chaperone," which opened on Broadway in 2006. As Barrett tells us, this funny and terrifically fun-to-watch musical actually began as a spoof --- written for a wedding reception --- of old-time musicals . . . and of the out-dated styles, politically incorrect jokes, and wonderful, jazzy tunes that tend to define such musicals. "The Drowsy Chaperone" will be staged at the Lorton Performance Center on the TU campus from tomorrow night (the 12th) through Sunday afternoon (the 15th). For more information, including ticket details and exact show times, please see this link. Also on this edition of StudioTulsa, we offer an audio clip from Abby Wendle of This Land Press --- it's a profile of a guy who was the paperboy for Tulsa rock icon Leon Russell in the early 1970s (back when Russell lived in the city's upscale Maple Ridge neighborhood).
