On today's show, we speak by phone with Davy Rothbart, a writer, editor, filmmaker, and contributor to public radio's "This American Life." He's also the founder/publisher of the popular "Found Magazine," which collects discarded notes, letters, photos, lists, and drawings that are both discovered and sent in by its readers. (The magazine has also been expanded into a website as well as a series of bestselling books.) Tomorrow night, Friday the 30th, Rothbart will host a free-to-the-public event here at the University of Tulsa, which begins at 7pm in the Tyrrell Hall Auditorium, and which is being co-presented by Book Smart Tulsa and Public Radio Tulsa. At this event, Rothbart will mainly read from his new essay collection, "My Heart Is an Idiot," which explores such themes as life on the road, doomed love, everyday miracles and mishaps in America, and the kindness (and nearness, and strangeness) of strangers. He'll also share several items/anecdotes from his ongoing "Found" project --- and his brother, a singer/songwriter with whom he regularly collaborates, will even play a few tunes. Seating is limited, and more information can be found at booksmarttulsa.com.
