Oklahoma City, OK – Dish Network customers could get restitution

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Attorney General Drew Edmondson says Oklahoma consumers could be eligible for restitution from satellite television provider Dish Network.

Edmondson and the attorneys general of 45 other states said Thursday they have settled allegations that the company and its third-party retailers engaged in deceptive and unfair sales practices.

Edmondson says his office has received more than 300 consumer complaints against the company.

States alleged Dish Network violated don't call laws, misled consumers about the terms of their agreements, charged customers without authorization and refused to accept responsibility for the misconduct of third-party retailers and installers.

The company will pay the states $5.9 million and set up a claims administration process to handle the consumer restitution process. Oklahoma will receive $125,000 for consumer protection initiatives.
