Tulsa, OK – Grand jury indicts assistant police chief, clerk

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A federal grand jury has indicted the assistant police chief and the city court clerk of Catoosa on drug charges.

Federal prosecutors say assistant Chief Paul Whitmire and Phyllis June Matthews made initial court appearances after their arrests Thursday morning.

Whitmire faces three counts of obtaining hydrocodone by misrepresentation, deception, fraud and subterfuge. Matthews has been charged with three counts of distribution of hydrocodone.

According to the indictment, Whitmire obtained hydrocodone, a narcotic pain reliever, by deception on three occasions in 2009. Matthews is accused of distributing the drug on three occasions last year.

Both were released from custody on a $5,000 unsecured bond. A trial date hasn't been set.

Neither Whitmire nor Matthews could be reached for comment on Thursday.
