Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa City Council discusses trimming back the Information Technology Department. The department has numerous division heads that make over $100,000 a year. The council is considering trimming the department's budget by $1.3 million. That would be about a 7.7% budget cut.
City Councilor Bill Christiansen says the IT department, in many cases, is a want not a need. Councilor Rick Westcott disagreed, saying the IT department is providing more service now at a lesser cost. Councilor Jack Henderson says the city doesn't have the money to implement IT programs and the top heavy management should be trimmed.
Mayor Bartlett urged the council to delay action on a resolution until after an outside firm completes a review of all city departments.
