Oklahoma City, Ok – Candidates in Okla. gov. race near finish

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's six candidates for the open governor's seat are reaching out to voters across the state and putting the finishing touches on their campaigns before Tuesday's primary election.

Democratic voters will decide between Lt. Gov. Jari Askins and Attorney General Drew Edmondson, while Republican voters will choose from state Sen. Randy Brogdon, U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin, and Oklahoma City businessmen Robert Hubbard and Roger Jackson.

All are vying to replace Democratic Gov. Brad Henry, who cannot seek a third consecutive term.

Edmondson and Askins are leaving open relatively safe seats to battle it out in a tough race for the Democratic nomination.

A longtime darling of Oklahoma Republicans, Fallin has been battling a pesky challenge from Brogdon, a conservative state senator from Owasso who has embraced the tea party.
