Tulsa, OK – gold coin again given to Tulsa Salvation Army

TULSA, Okla. (AP) For the 14th time in the past 15 years an anonymous donor has dropped a pure-gold South African Krugerrand into a Salvation Army kettle in Tulsa.

The coin is valued at $680 and was found Tuesday in a kettle outside a Reasor's grocery store. Tulsa Area Commander Maj. Roy Williams told the Tulsa World the coin was wrapped in a "Merry Christmas" note.

Salvation Army spokeswoman Sallie Godwin said last year is the only year in the past 15 that a Krugerrand has not been found in a Tulsa area kettle.

The Salvation Army kettle drive continues until 3 p.m. Friday with the donations helping provide Christmas dinners, clothing and toys for needy families.
