Perry, OK – PERRY, Okla. (AP) - Police in Perry say several homes were evacuated after a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train derailed in the northern Oklahoma town - but no injuries are reported.

BNSF spokesman Joe Faust says 13 cars of the westbound train derailed about 10:15 p.m. Thursday and fertilizer - which is considered a hazardous material - leaked from one.

Faust says the company sent an environmental assessment team to the site Friday and there is no contamination of nearby water supplies. He says the company is working to put the rail cars back on the track and expects to have that done by 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Faust said the cause of the derailment was not immediately known. He said the train was traveling approximately 20 miles per hour when it derailed.
