Law Challenge

By AP/KWGS News

Tulsa, OK –

TULSA, Okla. (AP/KWGS) Two Tulsa area school districts have filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a law allowing the use of public funds to send special-needs students to private schools.

The lawsuit was filed by the Union and Jenks school districts. The claims the law violates the state constitution's prohibition of using public funds to aid any sectarian institution.

The lawsuit names parents who sued Union, Jenks for allegedly failing to provide funding for their special-needs children to attend private schools.

Attorneys for the parents say the lawsuit is "outrageous" and targets parents who simply took advantage of a scholarship opportunity.
