OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — School officials across Oklahoma say they're keeping a close eye on rising fuel prices — but are not yet considering eliminating field trips or cutting athletics travel.
Oklahoma City schools Chief Operations Officer Jim Burkey says the district paid $3.21 per gallon for about 15,000 gallons on March 13 — up from $2.45 per gallon in December.
Burkey says curtailing field trips or athletic travel has not been discussed — but said it's an area that could be considered if prices continue to rise.
Superintendent Tim Puett of the 205-student Arnett district in Ellis County said he won't consider cutting student trips unless fuel reaches $4 per gallon. He said he's told bus drivers to pick the lowest price among the three stations in the area when filling the tanks.
