Cause of Fatal Tulsa Fire Likely Accidental

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Tulsa fire officials say the cause of a fatal apartment fire that killed two children is likely accidental.

Capt. Stan May says the cause of Monday's blaze on the city's south side was probably caused by a cooking fire, and that the scene is still being investigated.

Two children ages 2 and 6 died in the fire, and two women who tried to get back into the smoke-filled apartment unit to rescue them were treated at hospitals.

May says a fifth patient was also transported to an area hospital for a medical condition unrelated to the blaze.

The fire broke out in a troubled area of town that has been marked by other tragedies this year, including the shooting deaths of four women at a nearby apartment complex in January.
