Gov. Mary Fallin has appointed Charles "Chuck" Sullivan as district attorney for Pittsburg and Haskell counties.

Sullivan will replace District Attorney Farley Ward, who was elected the district's chief prosecutor in 2010 and is retiring effective Sept. 30. Ward recommended Sullivan, who currently serves as his top assistant, to replace him, and Sullivan will serve as district attorney for the remainder of Ward's term, which expires in January 2019.

Fallin said Friday that Sullivan has an array of legal experience that gives him a unique perspective to serve as district attorney. Sullivan, of McAlester, previously worked in insurance defense with a law firm in McAlester and for the Tulsa County public defender's office.

Sullivan earned his law degree from the University of Tulsa.
