A man already imprisoned for murder has been charged in a separate killing in a 24-year-old cold case that state investigators say they solved by reanalyzing DNA evidence.

Court records show 58-year-old Kenneth Tyrone Brown was charged Tuesday in Wagoner County with one count of first-degree murder in the April 1995 killing of 24-year-old Donald Hawley. Hawley was found beaten to death on the bank of the Verdigris River north of Muskogee.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Director Ricky Adams says the agency's cold case unit began reviewing the case in 2018 and found DNA from a hair found at the crime scene matched Brown.

Brown already is serving a no-parole life sentence for killing a woman in 1995.

Court records don't indicate if Brown has an attorney.
