TU and the OHP Team Up to Teach the Latest Technology in Traffic Crash Investigations

KWGS News

Experts from the University of Tulsa and the Highway Patrol are conducting training this week in the latest techniques for investigating traffic collisions. The focus is on larger, commercial trucks. Lt. James Loftis is with the OHP’s State Crash Team. He says with this training and some new equipment, officers will be able to plug into trucks’ diagnostic detectors just like mechanics do. It will give them on-site information on things like speed, r-p-m’s, throttle position, whether brakes were activated, and other important facts related to the crash.

Loftis says it will improve crash evidence gathering ability and save time. About two dozen law investigators and private crash reconstruction teams are attending the training classes.
