We've had some mighty nice feedback over the past few days regarding the show that we aired on Saturday the 8th; namely, we've received a handful of kind and/or appreciative emails referring specifically to the second hour of that show, when our theme was jazz renditions of tunes from "Porgy and Bess."
In that hour, we played cuts from Miles Davis, Joe Henderson, Herbie Hancock, Shirley Horn, Bill Evans, and other greats --- and we were likewise pleased to spin a stellar version of "There's a Boat That's Leaving Soon for New York" by an outstanding young jazz vocalist named Sachal Vasandani. (You'll find a full playlist here.)
But why "Porgy and Bess," you ask? Well, mainly because there's an award-winning, critically acclaimed revival of that masterpiece now playing on Broadway. The final performance for this production will be on September 23rd.
Thanks, as ever, for listening to our jazz program, folks --- and to those who've written us recently, about "Porgy and Bess" or any other matter, thanks for doing so.
