Oklahoma City, OK – OPEA calls for legislative subcommittees to meet
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's largest state workers organization is calling for lawmakers to convene meetings of appropriation subcommittees.
The Oklahoma Public Employees Association said Friday it's not yet calling for a special session of the Legislature but that the state's continuing revenue decline merits meetings of the subcommittees.
Budgets for state agencies have been cut by 5 percent each of the last three months because of revenue shortfalls. State Treasurer Scott Meacham says similar cuts in budget allocations are possible for the rest of the fiscal year, which runs through June 2010.
OPEA Policy and Research Director Trish Frazier says the subcommittees should return to the Capitol to receive briefings on how state agencies are handling the cuts.
The OPEA also is calling for cuts to private vendors.
