Surface cold front has moved through northwest Arkansas and southeast Oklahoma, with the surface freezing line lagging a short distance behind. Snow is occurring across northeast Oklahoma from Tulsa to Joplin, with another heavier band affecting southeast Oklahoma this morning. Only light accumulations are expected across northeast Oklahoma. The heaviest snow will fall east of Tulsa, across east central Oklahoma into western Arkansas. This is generally south and east of a line from Grove to Muskogee, and snow amounts may range from 1 to 2 inches, with a minimal glazing of ice possible as well. Strong winds will continue through midday for much of the area as well, with gusts in the 35 to 40 mile per hour range. If you are traveling today, allow some extra time and be aware that slick spots could develop on area roads, particularly on elevated surfaces and bridges. Temperatures will remain below freezing for much of the area. The snow will end by early afternoon for eastern Oklahoma and by early evening for western Arkansas. The cold airmass will moderate quickly on Sunday and Monday with temps back into the 40s on Sunday and 50s on Monday. Strong and gusty south winds develop Monday ahead of the next front. The next chance of rain arrives late Monday night into Tuesday.
