Ex-state Medical Board Attorney Makes First Court Appearance

Oklahoma Watch

The former top lawyer at the Oklahoma State Department of Health has made her first court appearance, at which a judge entered "not guilty" pleas on her behalf to sending threatening emails to herself.

The Oklahoman reports Julie Ezell was arraigned Wednesday before Special Judge Kevin McCray in Oklahoma City on felony charges of preparing false evidence and a computer crime. She also is charged with making a false report of a crime, a misdemeanor.

In an affidavit, an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agent wrote that the 37-year-old Edmond resident sent threatening messages to her own official government email and then reported that to authorities.

Ezell resigned her position as general counsel days before her criminal charges became public July 17.
