Medical Marijuana Working Group Now Taking Public Comments Via Email

Oklahoma's Medical Marijuana Working Group is now accepting public comments through email.

The legislative group heard public comments for the first time at its regular meeting last Wednesday. Nearly two dozen Oklahomans signed up to speak after two doctors presented to the board.

"The public comment period was successful and beneficial for members of the committee. Since there is not enough time during meetings to accommodate everyone who wants to speak, we are setting up an e-mail address to accept public comment on the implementation of medical marijuana," said Senate Pro Tem-designate Greg Treat.

In previous weeks, medical marijuana industry and patient advocates and law enforcement leaders gave their thoughts to the working group.

"Lawmakers in the legislative working group are seeking a path forward to implement State Question 788 in a way that conforms to the desires of voters who passed the law,” said House Speaker Charles McCall in a statement. "To do that effectively, the working group needs as much input as possible from citizens — supporters, advocates, patients, health-care providers, public safety and law enforcement officers and even those who have concerns."

Public comments can be sent to sq788@oksenate.gov. Emails will be shared with members of the working group.

The group, which meets each Wednesday at the state capitol, will offer recommendations for medical marijuana regulations.
