John Waters: Devil's Advocate
John Waters: Devil's Advocate
Creative forces don’t get much more fearless than the beloved “Pope of Trash” John Waters, who through landmark films (including the infamous “Pink Flamingos” and surprise mainstream hit “Hairspray”), books, photo exhibitions and solo performances, has delighted in challenging norms and celebrating outsiders with fierce intelligence and gleefully transgressive aesthetics. For this special appearance — Waters’ first in Tulsa in 35 years — the self-professed “filth elder” will present an all-new spoken-word production in which he salutes the new gender-guerilla generation for doing the impossible — actually making him nervous.
Together, Waters urges in this typically outrageous, razor-sharp show, we must “form a new rainbow of rancid colors and seize back the sexual revolution from the self-righteousness of the left and the intolerance of the right. A new middle-of-the-road madness that uses humor as terrorism, wit as ammunition. We’re here. We sneer. Don’t get used to us.”
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience John Waters live on stage, presented with pride (and a bit of dirty shame) by the Bob Dylan Center.
This event is made possible through the generous support of Lauren Houston and Shane Gilley.
