Making Sweet Tea and Other Secrets

Making Sweet Tea and Other Secrets

A powerful and timely play that looks at peeling back the layers of bigotry, prejudice, and abuse in a small rural town dealing with a transgender issue.

Synopsis:

Dottie and Ruth Hamilton have always kept their lives in order, living each day in rural isolation and contentment. All of that changes when the sheriff drops a battered teenage girl on their doorstep and asks them to keep her safe. Neither is prepared for the role of savior, and they are even less inclined when they find out the girl is really a boy and the person who has almost killed her is her father, one of the most respected members of their small community. The question is can these two older women get past their own ingrained ideas of how life should be to protect a teenager they don’t even understand?

Making Sweet Tea and Other Secrets refers to all the hidden bigotry, prejudice and even brutality a town will turn a blind eye to, until forced to bring those secrets to light and fight back.
