Replacing Okla.'s 18-year-old voting machines eyed
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A top Oklahoma election official says this may be the last year for using the state's optical scanner voting machines.
State Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax says the equipment is 18 years old, and the state has gotten its money's worth. Ziriax said spare parts are getting hard to find and both the hardware and software are nearing the end of their useful life.
Ziriax said he and his staff will begin in July reviewing what's on the market now in the way of voting machines. He said he expects several companies will be interested in bidding on the work.
