Pay Hikes for Judges?

Oklahoma City, OK – Board recommends pay raise for Oklahoma judges

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A state board is recommending a six percent pay raise for judges in Oklahoma.

The Board of Judicial Compensation voted 4-0 for the recommendation and sent it to Gov. Mary Fallin and the leaders of the state House and Senate. The raises will take effect July 1 unless the governor or the legislature disapproves them.

The current salaries of judges range from just more than $105,000 for special judges to $147,000 for the chief justice of the state Supreme Court.

Administrative director of the courts Mike Evans told The Oklahoman that the pay raise would cost the state about $2.5 million per year.

Board members said the raise is to cover the increased cost of living since judge's last received a pay raise in July 2008.
