Bands of showers and thunderstorms will likely be ongoing across portions of eastern Oklahoma Monday morning. This activity will spread east into northwest Arkansas Monday afternoon and evening. The stronger storms could be severe with large hail, damaging winds and torrential rainfall.
The severe threat is expected to transition more to a flooding threat Monday night into Tuesday as repeated rounds of heavy rain continue along the slow moving front. Low level wind fields may remain strong Monday night into Tuesday morning as surface low pressure develops along the front which would maintain at least a limited severe threat.
Widespread 3 to 5 inch rainfall totals are expected with locally higher amounts approaching 10 inches possible across portions of southeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. If these rainfall amounts materialize as expected moderate to major flooding will be likely Tuesday into Wednesday. A flood watch is in effect for portions of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas Monday afternoon through Tuesday.
