No word on whether Hertz Rent-a-Car’s purchase of Dollar Thrifty will result in layoffs for area workers.
“Tulsa has been kind of the center of the universe in the car rental business for the last couple of decades,” said Jim Fram with the Tulsa Metro Chamber.
“We would hope that Hertz would recognize the quality of the workforce here,” he said, “and be able to retain as many of those jobs as we can.”
Fram says the Chamber is working with Hertz on its plans for the Tulsa workforce, as well as its plans for involvement in the Tulsa community.
He says Dollar Thrifty was very locally involved, especially with United Way.
Fram says Dollar Thrifty weathered the recession well, so it’s no surprise Hertz wants to acquire it.
It’s too soon to tell whether there will be layoffs in Tulsa, or how severe they would be.
