St. Gregory's To Begin Restoration After '11 Quake

SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) — The president of St. Gregory's University says restoration work is about to begin to repair damage to the campus' main building caused by a historic Oklahoma earthquake just more than a year ago.

The 5.6 magnitude earthquake on November 5th, 2011, was centered near Prague, Oklahoma and resulted in the destruction of all four turrets that rose from corners of Benedictine Hall. The building houses administrative offices, the school library and most of the campus' classrooms.

University President Greg Main says he hopes work will begin in January to restore the turrets and repair damage to the building, which opened in 1915.

Main says the university did not have earthquake insurance and that the estimated $5 million to $6 million for renovations is to be paid through a fund-raising campaign.
