Vinita Service Plaza on I-44 to Close for a Year

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — State transportation officials say motorists driving along Interstate 44 in northeast Oklahoma will have to exit the turnpike for fuel and food for about a year while the Vinita Service Plaza undergoes renovations.

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority announced Monday that the plaza will be closed beginning June 4. As a result, there will be no rest stops along the turnpike between Tulsa and the Oklahoma-Missouri state line. The turnpike will remain open to traffic, but motorists will have to exit the interstate to purchase fuel and food.

The renovations will include a larger convenience store, upgraded restrooms, and a McDonald's and Subway restaurant.
