TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Tulsa County election officials are predicting a voter turnout of up to 45,000 for the Tulsa mayor primary election.
Election Board assistant secretary Shelly Boggs says early voting in advance of Tuesday's election has been strong.
Tulsa has just fewer than 199,000 voters eligible to vote in the election.
Incumbent Mayor Dewey Bartlett's top challengers for re-election are former Mayor Kathy Taylor and former City Councilor Bill Christiansen. Also on the ballot are Lawrence Kirkpatrick and Jerry DeWayne Branch.
If one of the five receives more than 50 percent of the vote then that candidate becomes mayor in December. If two candidates combined receive more than 50 percent then they advance to a general election in November.
