OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma appeals court has set a January execution date for a man convicted in the 1995 beating death of a Tulsa convenience store manager.
The Court of Criminal Appeals on Friday scheduled a Jan. 9 execution for Michael Lee Wilson. Wilson was one of four men found guilty in the Feb. 26, 1995, beating death of 30-year-old Richard Yost.
Yost was found bound and beaten on the floor of the convenience store's cooler. Authorities say he was struck dozens of times with a baseball bat.
Attorney General Scott Pruitt requested the execution date be set after Wilson's appeals were all exhausted.
Two co-defendants have already been executed for the crime. The fourth, Richard Harjo, was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
