OKC Thunder Specialty Plate Grows in Popularity

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — State officials say the Oklahoma City Thunder specialty license plate is the fastest-growing tag produced by the state.

The Oklahoma Tax Commission has issued 7,150 special license plates with the Thunder logo and the prefix THU or THD followed by numbers. According to The Journal Record that number doesn't include non-logo, personalized plates that include combinations like THNDR, the buffalo mascot RMBL or Kevin Durant's jersey No. 35.

Commission spokeswoman Paula Ross says the state quickly sold 999 plates with the THD prefix, and the 999 plates with the THU letters sold out fast as well.

Last year, the special Thunder plates brought in $47,000 in revenue. Only wildlife conservation produced more revenue among the special-interest license plates.
