More Oklahoma Beaches Closed. Corps Suspect Rains to Blame

Corps of Engineers

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers closes three Oklahoma swim beaches. The closing follow water sample tests that showed higher than acceptable levels of e-coli in the water.

What is causing the problem?

The Corps believes the recent heavy rains may be to blame. The long dry spell has allowed waste to accumulate  in the watersheds. The rains may have washed that waste into the lakes. Also, the Geese population that frequent Oklahoma lakes may be leaving waste behind.

The beaches are on Lake Tenkiller. The no-swimming order impacts Cookson Bend, Snake Creek and Chicken Creek.

The Grand River Dam Authority closed the swim beach at the Bernice State Park earlier this month. That beach remains closed
