TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) — The Cherokee National Youth Choir has won a contest for $10,000 sponsored by the band Foreigner and the GRAMMY Foundation.
Foreigner bassist Jeff Pilson and band manager Phil Carlson presented the choir a check on Thursday during the choir's performance for Cherokee Nation employees. About 120 choirs nationwide had entered the contest that stresses the importance of music in school.
The choir has produced 12 compact discs in the Cherokee language and performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The choir will use the $10,000 for travel expenses to future appearances and for studio recording time for their next CD.
