Fire Started By Muskogee Police

Muskogee Police

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) — The Muskogee Fire Department has determined that a specific tear gas canister used during a police standoff was most likely the cause of a house fire.

The Muskogee Phoenix reports that the fire department released a 30-page report that says a fire that broke out during the standoff with a wanted man on Dec. 2 was likely caused by a CTS 5430 tear gas canister used by the police department.

The police department's Special Operations Team used the canisters to successfully get a man who had four warrants for his arrest to exit the home.

Three of the canisters were the CTS 5430 model. Police ran tests to determine if the canisters could cause a fire if exposed to newspaper and tissue.

A claim seeking damages has been filed by Steve Money, the homeowner's attorney, on behalf of his client.
