Despite a recommendation three of four should be closed, all Tulsa County swimming pools will open this summer. Due to costly maintenance and low attendance, Parks Director Richard Bales requested LaFortune, O’Brien, and Chandler pools be closed permanently. Commissioners said ‘not this year’. All three plus the south county pool in Glenpool will open at the end of May. The issue will be revisited next year, after this year’s season is reviewed.
Last year, all county owned pools lost money, and increasing maintenance costs and dwindling attendance prompted the call for closing.
