Tulsa Chiropractor Gets Probation in Killing Trees

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A Tulsa chiropractor has been sentenced to probation after admitting to poisoning trees and damaging several families' lawns.

The Tulsa World reports that James Dohnalek was sentenced Thursday to 30 months of probation after pleading guilty to malicious injury to property. The 63-year-old also was ordered to pay more than $83,000 in restitution.

According to a police affidavit, Phyllece and Patrick Clare watched the trees, along with multiple hedges and flowers, die in their front yard in 2013 and 2014.

Phyllece Clare says she monitored her yard to try and catch the person who was poisoning her lawn. She saw a man roll down his car window and begin taking photos. She obtained the vehicle's license plate number, which led investigators to Dohnalek.
