Ex-Teacher in Oklahoma gets 10 Years in Student Sex Case

Facebook

HOLLIS, Okla. (AP) — A former teacher in southwestern Oklahoma has been sentenced to 10 years in prison following a conviction for having sex with a student.

A Harmon County district judge sentenced Jennifer Caswell on Wednesday to 15 years in prison with 5 years suspended on each of six crimes involving sex with a 15-year-old boy. The Oklahoman reports that the sentences are to run at the same time.

In June, Caswell pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree rape, two counts of enticing a child and one count of forcible sodomy.

Her attorney characterized the punishment as harsh for 29-year-old Caswell and said her sentence was at least twice that of what they had anticipated.

Caswell resigned as a middle school English teacher in April 2014.
