OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A Republican state legislator from Sapulpa says he plans to retire when his current term ends next year and will not seek re-election.

State Rep. Mark McCullough announced Monday his plans to retire when his current term ends.

McCullough was first elected in 2006 and could have sought another term in office before being forced out by term limits, but he says he wants to spend more time with his family, including his two young sons.

McCullough's District 30 includes portions of Sapulpa, Glenpool, Kiefer, Mounds, Liberty, Oak Ridge and Bixby.

He is an attorney and currently serves as chairman of the House Appropriations and Budget Subcommittee on the Judiciary, which oversees funding for the court system.
