Former Piece of Williams Companies Bought for $130 Million

The sale is final for a business with ties to the Williams Companies.

Pipeline construction company Willbros was spun off from Williams in 1975. It has been bought by TRC Companies for $130 million cash. Willbros President Ed Wiegele will stay on as a senior vice president with newly named TRC Pipeline Services.

"The business as it sits today is headquartered here in Tulsa, Okla., will remain headquartered in Tulsa, Okla.," Wiegele said. "We will continue to grow this business and be a major employer in the City of Tulsa."

Willbros employs 850 people in Tulsa. No job cuts were announced during a conference call.

TRC Chairman and CEO Chris Vincze said he wants "incremental growth ... sooner than later," calling Tulsa a center of excellence.

"It's a great environment — low-cost environment — to hire engineering services and, again, build up from here and service the rest of the country from here," Vincze said.

Dallas-based Energy Transfer Equity bought the Williams Companies in an unrelated, nearly $38 billion deal earlier this year.
