A Republican businessman and a Democratic teacher face each other in a special election for an Oklahoma state Senate seat vacated by a lawmaker who pleaded guilty to embezzlement.
GOP businessman David McLain of Skiatook and Democrat J.J. Dossett of Sperry advanced to Tuesday's general election by winning their parties' primaries in November.
They're seeking the District 34 seat vacated last year by Republican former state Sen. Rick Brinkley, who pleaded guilty to embezzling money from the nonprofit agency where he worked. The seat represents parts of Tulsa and Rogers counties.
Brinkley acknowledged in federal court in August that he stole $1.8 million from the Better Business Bureau in Tulsa. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud and subscribing to a false tax return.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled March 4.
