OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Firefighters are battling grass fires across central Oklahoma amid gusty winds, low humidity and unseasonably high temperatures.
Crews responded to grass fires in Yukon and Bridge Creek Friday. Oklahoma City firefighters have already worked several grass fires within the city.
The National Weather Service in Norman has declared a red flag warning in several central and southwestern Oklahoma counties where the danger of wildfires is greatest.
Forecasters say critical fire weather conditions are expected Friday afternoon and Saturday as warm, dry air combines with gusty southwest winds. Temperatures topped 70 in central Oklahoma Friday and were forecast to be near 70 on Saturday.
Authorities are urging citizens to use extreme caution when doing anything outdoors that could spark a blaze.
