The Leisure Park Elementary School in Broken Arrow is evacuated after students started complaining of watery eyes and breathing problems. The Broken Arrow School District released the following statement:
Today, several students and staff in a classroom at Leisure Park complained of breathing difficulty and watery eyes. Parents of those students who were complaining have been notified. Students and staff were evacuated as a safety precaution while Broken Arrow safety personnel investigated the situation. Those complaining of respiratory issues are being evaluated by medical personnel. While safety personnel are evaluating the school, the students will be transported to Aspen Creek Elementary and ECC so that lunches may be served and there is access to restrooms. We will continue to keep parents advised as we receive more information and also provide updates on the Leisure Park website.
UPDATE: This is an update on the situation at Leisure Park. Safety personnel have concluded their investigation. It appears that a pepper spray pellet brought by a student created the fumes causing irritation to a few students and staff. Safety officials have assured us that it takes approximately one hour for the fumes to dissipate. However, so that the building can be properly cleaned and aired out, Leisure Park students will remain at Aspen Creek for the remainder of the day and will dismiss from that campus. We will provide more information on dismissal procedures within the hour.
UPDATE ON DISMISSAL:The following are dismissal procedures for Leisure Park students who have been temporarily located at Aspen Creek Elementary and ECC.
Bus riders will be taken home on their normal buses via their normal bus routes. Parents of students who are car riders or walkers must pick their students up at Aspen Creek Early Childhood Center which is located at 2700 W. Florence Street. B&A parents can pick up their students at the normal pick up time at Aspen Creek Elementary, located at 2800 W. Florence Street.
Classes will resume tomorrow as usual at Leisure Park. Thanks for your patience as we worked to resolve this situation.
