Residents of the Chouteau Bend Recreation Area are being told the park will close at the end of the month and that they need to move. In addition to weekend campers, many people live there year-around.
The US Army Corp of Engineers took the action. The Corps’ Real Estate Director is Terry Rupe. He says the problems there are long term and they have been unable to get the lease-holder to fix numerous electrical and septic related problems at the area.
Rupe says if someone wants to lease the facility and bring it to code, the Corps would be willing to discuss the situation.
The area flooded last Christmas, but Rupe says the problems pre-date the flood. Chouteau Bend is east of the town of Chouteau on Highway 412 in Mayes County.
