More than 1,000 people filled a Tulsa arena to remember influential musician Leon Russell, who sang, wrote and produced some of rock 'n' roll's top records.
Mourners gathered Sunday for a public memorial at the Mabee Center to honor Russell, who died on Nov. 13 at 74.
A casket covered with white flowers and Russell's trademark white cowboy hat sat in front of a podium. A grand piano was nearby.
The Lawton-born Russell, recognized by his white, flowing hair, wrote Joe Cocker's "Delta Lady" and in 1969 put together Cocker's "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" tour. He played on The Beach Boys' "California Girls" and Jan and Dean's "Surf City."
Russell produced and played on recording sessions for Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Ike and Tina Turner, the Rolling Stones and others.
