Okmulgee Bankruptcy Court Moving

GAO

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma will relocate this fall to a city east of its current location.

The Tulsa World reports the bankruptcy court announced July 12 that it will move from the U.S. Post Office and Courthouse in downtown Okmulgee to the Ed Edmondson Federal Courthouse in Muskogee effective Oct. 1.

Therese Buthod is the clerk of the court for the Eastern District's bankruptcy court. She says the court decided to move into the same building housing the Eastern District's federal district court "to save taxpayers some money."

The bankruptcy court has one judge and 14 office staff. Buthod says everyone is keeping their jobs amid the move.

Oklahoma's federal courts are divided into three districts, with the Eastern District serving 27 counties.
