Hot as a Firecracker... With a Chance of Natural Fireworks

NWS Photo

Isolated to scattered diurnal thunderstorms are expected to
develop across eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Initial
development could occur as early as the late morning hours, with
peak coverage during the mid afternoon, followed by a decrease
during the early evening. The strongest storms could produce
locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

In addition to the thunderstorm potential, a few spots in eastern
Oklahoma and west central Arkansas may see heat index values near
100 this afternoon.

Daily thunderstorm chances, including a locally heavy rainfall
potential, will continue through the end of the weekend as a
series of disturbances move through the area. The upper level
ridge will build across the region next week, leading to
increased potential for heat and humidity impacts. Triple digit
heat index values are expected across much of eastern Oklahoma and
west central Arkansas through much of next week.
