The Tulsa Health Department has lifted the order to vacate the Chateau 68 Apartment complex. The order was posted on November 7th, and officials allowed residents to remain in their homes while repair work continued. The apartment complex has since restored the heat system to provide sufficient heat to all units without the use of supplemental sources. This has been independently verified by a third-party, and necessary documentation has been provided to the Tulsa Fire Department to lift the mandatory fire watch.
THD officials worked closely with the City of Tulsa Working in Neighborhoods (WIN), Tulsa Fire Department, and community partners like the Community Service Council to ensure the health and safety of residents of the complex. THD inspects existing structures to ensure and enforce certain minimum building standards that must be in place if the structure is occupied or used. These standards, set forth in Title 55 (Property Maintenance Code), include requirements pertaining to sanitation, maintenance, electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems, and more.
In April, THD launched Safe & Healthy Homes, a volunteer pilot program that provides Tulsa County property owners free courtesy inspections of homes and apartment units to ensure a healthy and safe home for their tenants.
