Health Department Announces Second Positive Test for COVID-19 in Tulsa County

New test results from the Oklahoma State Department of Health lab show a second case of COVID-19 in Tulsa County.

OSDH recently got kits to test for the respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus. The resuts will be confirmed with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The new case is a woman in her 20s who traveled to Italy.

She is not linked to Tulsa County's first case, a man in his 50s who also traveled to Italy.

The Tulsa Health Department is working with the state health department to identify close contacts of the new case.

OSDH will also be monitoring 26 Oklahomans who are passengers on the Grand Princess cruise ship docked in San Francisco. All 3,500 passengers will be screened, and any with symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, cough and difficulty breathing, will be in isolation.

The rest will be free to return home. OSDH and local health departments will follow up with the Oklahomans on the ship in case they develop symptoms later.

The U.S. State Department warns travelers, particularly those with underlying medical conditions, should avoid cruise ships.

OSDH has a toll-free number people can call to have questions about the coronavirus and COVID-19 answered, 1-877-215-8336. Hours of operation vary and are updated through the agency's social media accounts.
