The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported on Tuesday 858 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the state's total to 17,220.
Tuesday's number of new cases smashed Oklahoma's previous one-day record of 585, set one week ago. Over the past seven days, Oklahoma has seen an average of almost 495 new cases a day, an all-time high.
Tulsa County had 261 of the new cases, topping its previous record of 259 set on June 23, and now has 4,365 in all. Over the past seven days, Tulsa County has seen an average of 134 new cases a day.
Oklahoma County has the second-highest total number of cases, 3,819.
Five deaths were reported Tuesday, none happening in the past 24 hours. COVID-19 has now killed 404 Oklahomans, 324 of them age 65 or older.
Hospitalizations in Oklahoma continue to increase, with 426 reported in Monday's nightly executive order report, an increase of 35 from the last report on July 2.
On June 1, fewer than 130 people were hospitalized for COVID-19, down from more than 560 at the end of March.
The state health department reported 573 additional patients as recovered on Tuesday, bringing the total number to 13,005. Patients are considered to have recovered if they did not die, are not currently hospitalized and it has been at least 14 days since their symptoms began.
Oklahoma has 3,811 active cases of COVID-19. Tulsa County has 1,000 of them.
