Jenks becomes the latest Tulsa-area school district to move students to distance learning because of rising numbers of students and staff positive for COVID-19 or in quarantine.
Starting Monday, all seventh- through 12th-grade students will go to distance learning. They are not set to return until Dec. 7.
Pre-K through sixth grades will continue in-person learning for now.
The district said there’s a lack of adequate staffing for its secondary schools. As of Wednesday, about two-thirds of students and staff with COVID-19 or in quarantine are at those schools.
Athletics and activities will continue, and meals will be available weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Jenks High School.
Jenks joins Bixby, Broken Arrow, Sand Springs and Union public schools as districts that have recently moved older students to distance learning because of rising COVID-19 numbers.
