Police Chase Ends With Suspect Dead

Tulsa Police-Facebook

Yale Avenue is closed between 41st and 43rd streets after a Tulsa Police chase ended with the suspect dead.

"It appears that the individual shot himself. He's deceased inside the vehicle," Officer Leland Ashley said. "Officers are on scene right now, our homicide unit, as well as the [medical examiner] is at the scene now, continuing the investigation."

Investigators and members of TPD's warrant squad tried to stop the man, whose name has not been released, at about 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a QuikTrip at 9300 E 71st Street. He was a suspect in a kidnapping and assault case from last month.

The man did not stop, leading officers on a chase. He shot at officers three separate times: At 7800 E 65th St., at 2200 S Yale Ave., and at 41st Street and Yale Avenue. He also hit a patrol car with his vehicle at 3800 S Yale Ave.

"If the individual has determined that he does not want to go to jail, he or she will do anything to avoid that," Ashley said.

Officers returned fire near 41st Street and Yale Avenue at about 2 p.m. It appears the suspect shot himself around that time.

No officers or bystanders were injured, despite the pursuit going through many busy areas of Tulsa.
